Mere days before Hurricane Ian rolled through Charleston in late September, Washingtonians Annie and Luke hosted an idyllic reception on the green at Patriots Point, complete with a glittering ocean panorama and an unexpected view of a SpaceX launch over the water. The pair—who shared a fairytale engagement in front of the National Christmas Tree at the White House—knew they wanted to start their next chapter in one of the most romantic East Coast cities.

With the bride’s parents in Mount Pleasant and dreams of moving to the Holy City in the future, the destination was a no-brainer. One hundred and fifty guests descended upon the links after a ceremony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church to enjoy a custom cocktail station while sailboats drifted through the harbor. Hewing to the bride’s classically elegant style, the nuptials incorporated shades of white, botanical greens, and flickering candles for ambiance. Family and friends flocked to the black-and-white checkered dance floor under crystal chandeliers as Flash Mob brought the energy with a rip-roaring party those in attendance will not soon forget. As the night came to a close, the pair were ushered out by sparklers and a sea breeze to the start of forever.

TOP TIPS

• Soften the setting. The florist and designer hung greenery and white draping with white café lights to line the ceiling of the tent for added depth and warmth.
• Grab a moment alone. Annie and Luke snuck away from dinner to have a few “just married” shots taken at sunset. It allowed them a moment alone to soak it all and turned out to be one of their favorite memories of the day.
• Don’t sweat the cake. You don’t have to have a fancy cake. The couple ordered theirs from Publix and loved it.
