Pastel Perfection | Close to a decade after they began dating, a Colorado couple exchanges vows in an easy, airy seaside ceremony on Kiawah Island

Lauren Gabosh & Brad Starbuck

Ocean Course at Kiawah Island

A year after Brad Starbuck and his family moved from Columbus, Ohio, to Charlotte, North Carolina, he worked up the courage to ask fellow fifth-grader Lauren Gabosch on a date. Though she shook her head with a firm  “no,” seven years later Lauren changed her tune and went with Brad to their senior prom. Though the pair took some time apart during their college years at the University of South Carolina, “We always ended up coming back to each other,” says Lauren. “I knew he was the guy I wanted to marry; there was never a doubt in my mind.” So when Brad popped the question during a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in 2013, Lauren replied with a resounding “Yes!”

When the couple’s blissful seaside ceremony at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island rolled around, all was relaxed. Lauren’s ruffled Modern Trousseau gown blew in the ocean breeze, a Southern palette of pastels like mint and peach dressed the day, and the pair’s eight-year-old golden retriever mingled with guests. When dusk set in, tea light candles tucked into mercury glass vessels filled the reception with a soft glow while guests nibbled on bite-sized delicacies from Sugar Bakeshop—a sweet touch to the light, airy affair. And when the evening came to an end, the newlyweds exited hand-in-hand amid a shower of rose petals and a crowd of well-wishers. Another chapter closed in their lovely love story.
