Jena of Propose Charleston creates custom proposal itineraries on the regular. To those planning to propose, she offers a few tips: Be patient and really consider how your partner would love to be proposed to; be realistic in the execution; and be authentic. “Doing something that you’re used to doing together can offer a great element of surprise,” she says.
It started with a plan to enjoy brunch at Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan’s Island preceded with a walk on the beach with their pup, Woodford. At least that’s what Britt Peters thought until her beau, Mike Webb, surprised her with a hopelessly romantic bended knee moment last summer, which he pulled off with help from Jena Clem of Propose Charleston. “Since I was contemplating a morning beach proposal and looking to retain the element of surprise, I relied on Jena’s local expertise to help make a proposal destination on the beach rather than propose in a random spot,” says Mike. (He and Britt live in Atlanta but love vacationing in the Holy City.)
He gave Jena specific requests and details like Britt’s favorite flowers and colors, and left the rest to the expert. Jena set up an idyllic picnic with driftwood and plush pillows, and made sure Mike knew the timing it would take to walk there. There was even a place setting for Woodford, complete with a sign and goodies, which Mike says drew a huge smile from his bride-to-be. “It was the perfect moment,” he says. And photographer Jen Keys was even on hand to capture the magic moment.
