Paige Marshall & Daniel Trexler
October 15, 2022 • Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist & Hibernian Hall
It was Charleston that first brought Paige Marshall and Daniel Trexler together, their love story unfolding along downtown’s tangled streets abuzz with the hum of cicadas. When they met as College of Charleston students in 2012, the spark between them was unmistakable as quick-witted banter flowed freely. Over the next two years, they fostered a friendship, venturing to music festivals and enjoying many a late night on King Street. By 2014, they decided to make the relationship official.
Flash-forward a few years, and Dan was planning a surprise summer proposal. He popped the question after a Magnolia’s brunch and rooftop drinks, where Paige says she noticed him sweating bullets, “but figured it was just the July humidity!” While strolling back to the car, Dan suggested they take the charming Philadelphia Alley, where he asked her the question of a lifetime. Little did Paige know, that wasn’t the only surprise he had in store that afternoon: several blocks away, their families and friends were waiting at Uptown Social to celebrate.
In planning their wedding weekend, the couple agreed there was no place like Charleston. “It’s such an important city to us,” Paige says. “We met here, went to school here, got engaged here, and have made so many great friends and memories here.” And indeed, the city would shine bright all weekend as they staged their celebration across multiple venues, working closely with planner Tara Guerard of Soirée to deliver an unforgettable party.
Dan and Paige exchanged vows before 250 family and friends in a ceremony at the grand Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist beneath its Gothic Revivial ceiling adorned with golden stars. After their kiss, the newlyweds and their guests headed to the courtyard of the Mills House Hotel for an alfresco cocktail hour. Then, it was on to Hibernian Hall for dining and dancing, where Dan surprised Paige by joining the band on stage to play saxophone to “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder. But the party didn’t end there: as the reception wrapped, the band led the jubilant crowd around the corner and back to the Mills House where the celebrations continued well into the night.
