Romance Rules | Fast friends leads to one stunning special day at Lowndes Grove Plantation

Christine Roberts & Jeff Alexander

Lowndes Grove Plantation

Christine Roberts met Jeff Alexander on their second night at grad school at the University of Georgia, where she was getting a public relations degree and he was earning one in college student affairs. Soon after, they shared their first date, and a little over a year later, the pair found themselves together with family at the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina, around Christmastime. On that trip, Jeff gave Christine a little book he’d made starring stick-figure drawings that depicted the couple’s past adventures. The blank pages at the back were meant for that very day, and on a carriage ride through the property when the driver paused to tend to the horses, Jeff handed his sweetheart a sheet with what else—a stick figure proposing, of course. Nine months later, the two joined family and friends in the pair’s favorite city, Charleston. Christine, now a wedding planner herself, teamed up with Lindsey Shanks of A Charleston Bride to fashion a day at Lowndes Grove Plantation resplendent in peach-hued Juliet roses, dahlias, and greenery and vintage-tinged décor. The couple, who live in Fort Worth, Texas, exited their magic night amid a cloud of pink and gold balloons before hopping aboard a boat that whisked them away down the Ashley River.
