Listen Up, Ladies

Listen Up, Ladies | Cool new rentals and favors, services and shops—all these Charleston finds are perfect for brides and fans of all things weddings
Homemade & Haute

They say necessity is the mother of invention and Sawdust and Sweetgrass (843/ 475-3927; SawdustAndSweetgrass.com) proves the adage true. When Charleston owners Holly and Jeremy Collins got married, the Mid-century design lovers wanted a statement piece or two that added retro pizazz to their Big Day. So they built honeycomb-styled shelves and installations that have become a hit with Holy City weddings. Check out their site for the innovative pieces they now rent to one and all.

Fresh, Local Flowers

Feast & Flora (FeastAndFloraFarm.com; @feastandflora) puts a whole new spin on farm-to-table. Operating out of small plot in nearby Meggett, owner Laura Mewbourn and farmer Joy Colby raise stunning, fresh blooms that you can buy loose or arranged for your wedding. Have something in mind? Let them know early in your planning and they can custom grow what you’ve got your heart set upon.

On Fire

The husband-and-wife team behind MacBailey Candle Co. (843/ 270-1007; macbaileycandleco.com) started making candles in their home kitchen and eventually branched out into a bigger operation, crafting such fetching fare that Anthropologie picked them up. Rich and Clara Bailey say they are inspired by walking Charleston’s streets, as this tabby number attests. Made of chemical-free soy wax, and poured into reusable vessels, the hand-poured, terrific smelling treats would be the wedding favor or hostess gift of our dreams.

All Wrapped Up

Why include a textile company in the mix? We’re thinking you and your gals might need towels and blankets to hit the beach (in style) on your wedding weekend, and perhaps you need some linens to zest up your bridal brunch, too? Use whatever reasoning you need to visit the South African shop Mungo Linens (843/ 425-7797; mungo.us), which opened its first U.S. store on Spring Street. Made sustainably at every stage of production, the 60-person company uses old-school looms (the most senior one is from 1890; the youngest is 50 years old) to craft gorgeous fabrics you’ll cherish.

Perfectly Peppy

Raised in Palm Beach, Florida, and a longtime resident of the Bahamas, Amanda Lindroth (843/371-1581; AmandaLindroth.com) knows how to entertain with tropical flair. The design guru, who worked at WWD and W, and did PR for luxury brands (Gucci, much?), opened her second shop stateside this year on King Street. Pop in to find just what you need for your newlywed nest.

Frosé a Go-Go

What’s better than frosé? Chanmé Frosé (FroseAllDay.com) pouches to go! The brilliantly packaged treat is the new release from local beverage smarties The Frozen Frogs, who aptly say they are here to fill voids in the frozen alcohol market. Mission accomplished. Sold online and stocked nationally, the pouches are also carried in town at Accent on Wine & More; Burbages Grocery; Harris Teeter; and at the Kwik Stop on Rhett Avenue in North Charleston. Stock your bachelorette weekend fridge now and thank us later.
