Olivia & Micah | The William Aiken House

Today’s couple hit it off one night at a Baltimore bar. Credit for the first move goes to Olivia, who made her intentions mighty clear on her way out by hip-checking another girl out of the way so she could give Micah her phone number. Now that’s what we call chutzpah! A few years later, the pair was in Alexandria, Virginia, for a mini getaway in Old Town. Looking out over the charming neighborhood from a penthouse balcony, Olivia says, “He held me in an embrace and I said to myself, ‘This is it!’ But then it didn’t happen until I was reaching for the door handle to exit our room and I heard, ‘Wait, wait, wait … I am so sorry I meant to do this out on the balcony.’ Micah pulled a ring, loosely wrapped in a bunch of multi-color tissue paper, out of his pocket, and, since we are big nerds, asked me to be his little hobbit for life.” (See, there really is someone for everyone.) When the two traveled to Charleston for Micah’s brother’s wedding (Olivia is originally from Rhode Island and South Carolina-born Micah is a graduate of The Citadel), she strolled past The William Aiken House and fell for it as her ultimate Big Day site. (It also happened to be where her soon-to-be brother-in-law would host them for his own wedding.) Not long after those run-ins, her wish came true and she and Micah said “I do” surrounded by pastel hues that accentuated the beauty of the historic home. And as inspiring as the affair was, it also had its humorous moments: “After the ceremony,” says Olivia, “I walked into the lounge where we had been tucked away before walking down the aisle and the best man was sitting there in his underwear. I thought, ‘Oh, he must be cooling off since it is so hot,’ but it turned out that his wife was sewing his pants that he had ripped during the ceremony.” Leave it to this couple to have a wedding as real as it was really breathtaking. Cheers to them and to Lauren Nievod for capturing their special time so wonderfully.
