When florist Caroline Spelman of Juniper and Jasmine tapped her sister, Elizabeth, to stand in as a would-be bride for a shoot, the latter reluctantly agreed. When they headed to the dock at Elizabeth’s boyfriend’s family home, lo and behold, James himself pulled up in a golf cart. “Things were not going well (amateur model here),” says Elizabeth, “and when he took my bouquet, I scolded him for ruining the flowers—then I realized he was down on one knee!” The shoot was merely a ploy for his proposal, and things only got more romantic thereafter when they invited 300 friends and family to St. Matthews Lutheran Church on Marion Square for their wedding (the sixth there on the Spelman side since 1860) and a reception at The Governor Thomas Bennett House. The florals were, of course, done by the maid of honor, Caroline.
