The two dated long distance during Charley’s senior year at the University of South Carolina, often traveling, playing golf, and boating, before making Charleston their home the following spring. When Taylor popped the question on a dock overlooking the Stono River, he surprised Charley with Champagne and a post-proposal celebration with family and friends.
