When Danny Newman met Tyler Blythe at Chai’s in downtown Charleston, he got straight to the point. “The very first thing he said to me was, ‘Hey, I’m Danny. I think we would be really good together,’” laughs Tyler. Half a year of friendship later, she finally took his word for it and the two began dating.

The couple often spent early summer mornings scouring Folly Beach for sand dollars and conch shells, and on June 5th, 2010, just when Tyler feared she might go home empty-handed, Danny called her over to take a look at “a great one.” Of course, the find turned out to be an engagement ring that he accompanied with a proposal.

And though they now live in Charlotte, the two felt such strong ties to the city where they had first crossed paths, they chose Charleston for their ideal wedding spot. A graphic
designer not shy about color or patterns, Tyler chose the wedding’s palette—greens with a bold orange to complement the natural tones of springtime—and enlisted Calder Clark to work from there. “With Calder at the wheel, there is no do-it-yourself. I put my trust in her, and it was perfection!” Tyler raves.

The end result—a day at Lowndes Grove Plantation—was beautiful. A clear-topped reception tent flanked the mansion and hosted a flower-filled fête. The setting sun washed the party in warm light, and once it faded, strands of globe lights twinkled overhead. As the night came to a close, Tyler and Danny climbed to the plantation balcony to watch their guests laugh and celebrate and to salute the tail end of a “fairytale wedding that went above and beyond my dreams,” says the bride.
