Ancient Greece Meets Charleston | A styled shoot takes its inspiration from a locally designed sandal
Architecture of classical Greece is seen throughout Charleston. The Greek Revival during the 19th century influenced the Holy City’s historical buildings with towering Greek columns and porticos. A shining example, South Carolina Society Hall served as the perfect backdrop for a collaborative styled shoot produced by photographer Jacqueline Clark and wedding planner and designer Elizabeth Elkins.

Inspired by local shoe designer Rebecca Gradler’s Kheloni sandals, the shoot seamlessly blends looks from Greece and the Lowcountry. Neutral hues for florals and bridesmaid dresses were offset with bold Mediterranean blues and white inspired by the South Carolina and Hellenic flags. Creech’s Florist intertwined elements of lush green, including Pampas grass, from local marshes mixed with earthy tones of the mountainous and rugged Greek coastlines.

Make the Look Your Own

Keep Like Flowers Together - In each vase on the tablescape, Creech’s Florist used only one type of plant or flower for an elevated garden feel.

Make it Your Own - Incorporate family antiques and personal touches. Elkins used her grandmother’s candelabra and decorated with her own gilded oyster shells.

Keep Catering on Theme - A charcuterie and local cheese spread from Peared To Be with olives, feta, and honey nodded to Greek culture.

Class Meets Comfort - Not a high-heel wearer? Skip the stilettos. Have an elegant flat or shorter heel on hand to change into, like Kheloni’s boucle sandal.

Mix it Up - Choose a variety of china, centerpieces, and and candles in the same color family. Here, a mix of patterns, shapes, and textures lend added depth to the tablescape.
