Romance struck when Richmond, Virginia, born Brad and Charlotte, North Carolina, native Jennifer were introduced by mutual friends in 2007. After six years of dating, Brad proposed as the sun set one evening during a relaxing Labor Day weekend getaway to Newport, Rhode Island. On a perfect autumn day, the couple swapped vows amid the avenue of oaks at the Legare Waring House at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site, then joined guests for a second-line march to the nearby Founders Hall with a jazz band jamming and Moscow mules in hand.
