Seven years after that fateful December night, John proposed on the back porch of Asheville’s famed Grove Park Inn while the sun set over the mountains. The couple wed during a private, family-only ceremony in Tess’s hometown of Stone Harbor, New Jersey, returning to Charleston to hold a private dinner reception at John’s other restaurant, The Royal American.
