Roper Hospital ER nurse Cassy and excavation expert John met through mutual friends, having a first date eating breakfast at Chick-fil-A after one of her long night shifts. The two spent as much time together as possible between their different work schedules, and after an 11-month courtship John proposed to Cassy while on a fishing trip in Port St. Joe, Florida.
