When Elizabeth Todd and Eric Boyer were set up on a blind date in May 2023, neither of them knew they were about to meet their forever partner. But over drinks at Bar 167, they connected on a deep level. Hours flew by as they shared stories and bonded over small-town upbringings (Elizabeth grew up in Laurens, South Carolina; Eric is from Lake Toxaway, North Carolina). After the pair had been dating for just shy of a year, while on a trip to Costa Rica, Eric proposed overlooking the Pacific at sunset.

The couple began planning October nuptials and discussed getting married in their home city of Charleston—but, concerned about hurricane season, turned to Asheville instead. They knew the mountains would be awash in majestic color and selected as their venue the stately Omni Grove Park Inn, where Eric grew up vacationing. Then, just 10 days before their wedding, the unthinkable happened: Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina and made celebrating in Asheville an impossibility. After confirming loved ones were safe, the couple considered their options. Their planner, Mary Martha Woodell, sprung into action and made calls around Charleston. In less than two weeks, she built the backup wedding of their dreams.

On October 12, The Dewberry hosted an unforgettable evening. The party was lively, the décor handsome and understated: neutral linens, fall-hued blooms, citrus accents. Most importantly, Eric and Elizabeth had their people together and couldn’t ask for more. In her words: “We got married on our planned day, in the city we love and live, and spent a gorgeous fall weekend celebrating with our loved ones.”
