Skip the standard bouquet of flowers and opt for a floral confection instead, like Tara Guérard of Soirée did here. At event’s end, let one lucky guest (per table) take home the treatdownload the instructions (adobe pdf) You will need: Oasis floral foam (in Designer Block and Grande Brick sizes) Sink or bucket filled with water Two round bowls (large and small) Cake stand 50-100 cushion (large) and button (small) mums in three complementary colors Floral scissors 1. Place Oasis in water until it’s soaked through but not fully saturated or dripping. Place large round bowl rim-side down over center of the broadest surface of wet Grande Brick and trace outer rim with knife, scoring foam. Cut block into a cylindrical shape, first trimming corners off, then following the scoring more closely. Repeat with small bowl and Designer Block. Cut cake slice wedge out of bottom layer and put aside. 2. Cut mum heads free with scissors, leaving about one-inch of stem remaining. 3. Insert flower stem into Oasis like a pushpin, so the heads of the cushion mums cover the foam. Repeat to cover the top and outer edges of the large bottom layer cake with “icing” of cushion mums. 4. In the gap where the slice was removed, insert “cake”- colored button mums and run an alternate line of flower heads to mimic a layer of icing. Cover small second layer of Oasis with cushion mums. 5. Stack the two layers and place on cake stand. 6. Cover sliced cake wedge piece with icing cushion mums, then replicate existing inner cake and icing layer pattern and colors. Plate slice. download the instructions (adobe pdf)
