Angela Sarro & Alexander Potts

As marketing pros from the Northeast, Angela Sarro and Alex Potts met through work and immediately hit it off. In the years since, they’ve traveled and had many exciting adventures together, including an overnight detour to Charleston, where they fell in love with the city. So after Alex proposed, the Holy City fit the bill for their destination wedding being on the water and accessible for friends and family coming from the Northeast, Florida, and Knoxville, where they live now. They enlisted Chelsye Harp of Intrigue Events for planning and design.

Angela didn’t have set vision, but had a Pinterest board and a color palette in mind—blue, blush, white, and pink—and wanted touches of Southern and modern. And Chelsye did not disappoint. The color palette was reflected in the flowers, but light blue was an accent that also came through in the velvet lounge furniture, the painted gold chandeliers in the reception tent, and in the tablecloths, glasses, and floral-patterned chargers. Light wooden chairs and custom rattan pendant lights over the dance floor, as well as gold flatware and tall table centerpieces were a perfect complement. The garden-inspired custom bar, decked in lattice and a spray of flowers, served all the couple’s favorites, including a boozy berry popsicle Champagne cocktail that was wonderfully refreshing on this most perfect of summer days.

Top Tips

Bring balance with texture. Multiple patterns and textures can work together, but as a rule of thumb, use at least one neutral color.

• Mind the centerpieces. Tall and nearly transparent centerpieces not only make it easier for guests to talk across the table, they also add dimension and prevent your tablescape from appearing flat.

• Think about light. Angela and Alex’s tent from Snyder is actually a clear-top tent that Chelsye’s team draped with sheer white fabric. It added shade on a warm day while keeping the lighting bright and natural, which is important for great photos. She also placed the couple in a key position, with the Ashley River behind them, so that all of the candid photos from their reception dinner have a picture-perfect backdrop.
