Unlike their first date, which was spent clinking Mint Juleps while watching the Kentucky Derby, Jared Sabnani did not think his relationship with Angel Sams would hit the ground running. “He had zero intention of staying in Raleigh because of his job as a pilot,” Angel says, “but then he started looking at houses and trying to win over my dog, Blanche, which made me realize his plans had changed.” There must have been something in the bourbon, as three years later, the couple was engaged and planning a springtime fête. But alas, COVID-19 infringed on the party planning process, and due to gathering restrictions, the duo and their planner, McLean Events, pivoted and traded Raleigh for the salty Charleston air just two months before the date. From there, though, everything shifted into place. Guests celebrated amongst blooms in varying shades of purple, while sipping on his and hers signature cocktails under a mesmerizing layered tulip chandelier—cementing the adage that all’s well that ends well.

Top Tips

• Make an airy outdoor space feel more intimate with a larger-than-life chandelier. Florals optional.
• Choose a table linen hue and pattern that enhances instead of competes with the main shade of the palette, which in this case is lavender.
• Double up on cake flavors to satisfy all. Angel opted for a half red velvet, half carrot flavoring.
• Create statement-making floral arrangements. Use gradations of the same hue to fashion a color-blocked effect.
