During a trip home from college, Jack met Ellie while both were having lunch at Old Village Bakery in Mount Pleasant. They dated long distance until after graduation, when Jack returned to Charleston. During a trip to Bulls Island for Ellie’s birthday in March 2015, he surprised her with an engagement ring. Hurricane Matthew forced the couple to postpone their original fall 2016 wedding (though they kept their Jamaican honeymoon plans) until the following March. They were married at Oak Point Plantation on the Stono River.
