How do I submit my wedding announcement to Charleston Weddings, Charleston magazine, and/or And what’s the difference in the three?

Click here to submit your wedding announcement. The Charleston Weddings Editorial Assistant sorts through these submissions, and those couples who are Lowcountry born, raised, and/or currently residing in the area who were married in the Lowcountry in the last five months are placed in Charleston magazine’s announcements section, space permitting. Couples presently living elsewhere but married in the Lowcountry in the past year are placed in Charleston Weddings, space permitting. Both sets of couples appear online in our announcement section, as well as those qualifying couples whom we couldn’t fit onto our print pages.


How long will my wedding announcement stay online?

For one year from when we have posted your announcement; or one year from the date of your wedding.

Can I submit my engagement announcement?

Yes! Click here to tell us your love story. And congratulations; we can’t wait to assist you in any way! (Please note that when your wedding month passes, we’ll remove your engagement announcement, and would love to include your wedding announcement.)


When does Charleston Weddings’ print magazine come out?

Three times a year. The spring issue is out in February; the summer issue comes out in May; the fall-winter issue comes out in September.


Where can I find Charleston Weddings?

Can I order copies of Charleston Weddings magazine in bulk for my wedding guests’ welcome bag?

Sure thing, and at a discount, no less! We’ve gotten great feedback from couples who did the same thing. Please contact or call (843) 971-9811 for information.


Do you send photographers out to cover weddings?

We’d love to but we simply don’t have the resources to do so. Typically we get wedding photography after the Big Day, from couples, their families, their wedding vendors (planners, photographers, brides), etc. To learn what we’re looking for, please read on.


How can I submit my wedding, or a wedding I worked on, for consideration as a story in Charleston Weddings’ print magazine or on

Whether you are a newlywed or a wedding professional, we’d love to consider any Lowcountry wedding for inclusion in the magazine and/or our website!


We look for unique, visually cohesive, and idea-rich wedding ceremonies and receptions--and wedding rehearsal dinners or showers or brunches, too.


• Please send a brief write-up of the wedding, including the location and date; names of the bride and groom; their contact information; key vendor names and contact information; a short description of the event--the theme, the look and feel, and favorite design elements and personal touches.


• Please send a selection of 20 or so professional low-resolution (72 dpi) photographs that best illustrate the event, i.e. the location with guests present, the couple, their family, the food, cake, flowers, special details, etc. Note: DETAILS make a story, as we’re looking to give readers ideas. While we feature families, we must showcase reception and ceremony décor and details for readers.


• Email your submission to Charleston Weddings Editor Melissa Bigner (with a zipped or archived batch of low-res photos), or mail a submission letter and CD of low-res images to Charleston Weddings, 782 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Suite C, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464.


How do you choose weddings?

Up to now, we’ve been contacting more than 250 Lowcountry wedding vendors twice a year asking for their best photos of Lowcountry Weddings. (We’re always adding vendors to that list, so pass on any new people we need to include!) We get scores and scores of weddings this way, and narrow down the Charleston Weddings magazine real-life weddings based on quality of photography, unique design ideas, and balance of look, locations, and feel. The tough thing is that a lot of submitted weddings have wonderful ideas, but oftentimes the images don’t capture those in print-quality imagery, or in enough images. There’s a lot of competition, too, as we get hundreds of submissions for a mere handful of slots in the magazine. We also have to balance locations, colors, and more.


Once the weddings have been sorted, we gather a review board from Charleston Weddings and Charleston magazine’s editorial and art staffs to pick the weddings we’ll feature in our bi-annual print edition. The board has no idea who the couples are, who the planners are, or other details; they make selections based on imagery alone.


To try and include a broader range of weddings, and more weddings, we’re now running smaller real-life wedding galleries online; more short, real-life wedding stories in the magazine; and looking to include inspiration boards on our blog. Is there a Charleston Weddings show or expo?

Each spring we host the Charleston Weddings Spring Bridal Show in downtown Charleston. It’s part high-end fashion show, part party, part vendor showcase. Click here for more information.

Here at Charleston Weddings, that means cities and towns from Myrtle Beach on South to Hilton Head, South Carolina.


I’d like to see more people of color on your site and in Charleston Weddings magazine—what gives?

We would love to feature more people of color! However, we can only feature what’s been submitted to us, and for the most part, what you see is what we’ve gotten. We regularly contact a large number of widely varied area churches and vendors to get weddings from a greater range of Lowcountry couples. If you know a person of color who’s been married here in the last year, please contact us or ask them to submit their wedding or announcement. With your help we can get a better representation of the Lowcountry on our pages and site.


Do you hire freelance writers and artists for assignments?

Yes. Writers: Please send your writing clips and pitch ideas to editor Melissa Bigner. Artisits: please send your portfolio to Julie Wood. Please note that we pay freelancers 90 days after publication.


Can you tell me about Charleston Wedding internships?

Sure! We offer three internships a year to assist in creating Charleston Weddings. The internships are unpaid and run from September through January; February through May; June through August. Requirements include at least 20 hours a week; strong copy editing skills in AP and Chicago styles a must; solid feature writing skills a must; proficiency in InDesign preferred; enthusiasm for the subject needed; solid organizational skills needed, too. Interns leave with clips and with solid experience on shoots, and in writing and editing for print and Web. Please contact editorial assistant Molly Hutter for details.
